About Us

Mitre Maker is a small family business that was established in 2013.

Having made many picture frames for friends and family over the years, we came to appreciate the surprising difficulty in cutting mitres that are accurate enough for framing projects. For such a simple joint, it can cause a lot of frustration!

We thought there must be a better way, so we spent a couple of years tinkering with prototypes and fine-tuning the design of what is now the Mitre Maker. This process of invention and refinement was a joint project between myself (Joel Stewart) and renowned boxmaker Roger Gifkins.

We are very happy with the product we have created, and now want to share our invention with other woodworkers. Making your own beautiful timber frames is very satisfying, and adds a unique and personal touch to special photographs and artworks. Our hope is that by avoiding all the messy calibration, testing and tweaking of your mitre joints the whole process is much simpler and more enjoyable than it’s ever been before.
