The Mitre Maker Spline Jig

Splines can be used to increase the joint strength or add decorative features to your mitred joints. The Mitre Maker Spline Jig was created to facilitate cutting a wide range of slots for splines using a table-mounted router.

A woodworker might typically make up their own jigs for cutting through splines on a table saw. Our take on the spline jig is similar to this, but for use with a router table instead of a table saw, and with a few added features including:

• A durable, compact laminate base for use in the upright or lay flat position against a fence on the router table;
• Removable and replaceable workpiece support pieces meaning you don’t have to rebuild your jig when you change cutters or move your slots;
• In-built aluminium fences that can be used to clamp your workpiece in position for extra security and versatility; and
• The ability to cut through, hidden, multiple or dovetail splines.

The Spline Jig is particularly useful for reinforcing mitre joints in projects that can’t use the stronger interlocking mitre joint. We used the spline jig in our recent post on making a document tray.

The Mitre Maker Spline Jig is now available in our shop.
